0607 Stellar Nursery
Image information
Description
From top left of this image a shock wave passes through the interstellar space from an exploding star (supernova – out of sight of this image). As the shockwave passes through, dust in space is disturbed and collapses into new stars under gravitational forces. The shockwaves pass on leaving behind pillars of dust, some forming new stars and planetary systems.
