0607 Stellar Nursery
From top left of this image a shock wave passes through the interstellar space from an exploding star (supernova – out of sight in this image). As the shock wave passes through, dust in space is disturbed and collapses into new stars under gravitational forces. The shock waves pass on leaving behind pillars of dust, some forming new stars and planetary systems.
