There is this frog-like rock on a beach in Fuerteventura, (Canary island) which I've become attached to. All it needs are the eyes which holidaymakers makes sure are there (when the tide comes in the waves knock the eyes off). This painting is of an astronaut (self portrait!), having a bit of fun. The other astronauts are already nearing the rover in the distance, except for one who is somewhat exasperated, waiting for me. Notice that the pocket on my left leg is bulging with rock samples that I could not resist, and one of the two straps fails to close as it is too full. Notice also my dirty knee caps, well you can imagine me wanting to get down to inspect rocks etc. Don’t laugh, I am wearing an Apple Watch, or something similar! The rock formation at the background is based on eroded sandy beach in Fuerteventura, it was only a couple of feet high, but it was enough to fire my imagination to create Martian cliffs. The “Frog” itself, I’ve faithfully painted exactly as it was.
