0533 Anomalocaris

Anomalocaris were the largest animals of the Cambrian times and one of the first known carnivorous animals on Earth. They had a circular shaped jaw lined with several layers of teeth. They used the two front appendages to grapple prey and transfer them to the mouth. The picture shows one just about to catch an Odaraia. Odaraia had three fins, which seems unusual considering that there are no present-day creatures on Earth with three fins.
