Two and a half billion years ago an asteroid impacted Earth. At that time Earth was in the throes of Snowball Earth "Huronian glaciation". It is speculated that the result of the impact ended the worldwide glaciation.The remains of this asteroidal impact is found in Mid Western Australia, and is the oldest impact structure on Earth.
